Republicans living in Legislative District 20, which encompasses parts of Meridian and Boise, this month will determine whether the top Republican senator returns to the Idaho Legislature.
Idaho Senate President Pro Tem Chuck Winder, R-Boise, a six-term legislator, in the May 17 primary election will face challenger Rosa Martinez, a Meridian resident with a background in crime and intelligence analysis.
Two other incumbents are also hoping to keep their House seats. Rep. Joe Palmer, a seven-term Meridian legislator, will face off against Gloria Urwin for the position A seat. Rep. James Holtzclaw, a five-term Meridian legislator, will run against Mike Hon for the position B seat.
No Democrats or third-party candidates have filed to run for District 20 seats.
The Idaho Statesman sent surveys to each of the candidates, and their responses are unedited below. Martinez, Palmer, Urwin, Holtzclaw and Hon did not respond to the survey.
