Who’s running in Idaho’s primary election for attorney general? Hear from the candidates

Republican voters on May 17 will decide which attorney general candidate will move on to face a Democrat in the November general election.

The GOP candidates are former Congressman Raúl Labrador, Coeur d’Alene attorney Art Macomber and incumbent Attorney General Lawrence Wasden, who is seeking a sixth term.

The attorney general provides legal representation to the state of Idaho, including state agencies, the governor and the Legislature. The attorney general serves a four-year term.

Steven Scanlin, of Boise, is also running, but he won’t face a challenger for the Democratic nomination.

The Statesman sent surveys to each of the candidates in contested primary races, and their responses are copied below, unedited. The candidates discuss emergency declarations during the COVID-19 pandemic, legal costs and advising the Idaho Legislature.
