Canyon County Republican voters in May will determine which candidates for two seats in the Idaho Legislature will move on to the November general election.
Legislative District 11 previously covered more rural parts of Canyon County, including Middleton and Wilder. With last year’s redistricting, the district now includes Caldwell and some unincorporated areas of the county.
The District 11 Senate seat and position B House seat will have contested GOP primary races on May 17. Both seats have two-year terms.
The Idaho Statesman sent surveys to each of the candidates, and their responses are copied below, unedited.
Rep. Greg Chaney, a four-term legislator, is running for Senate against Chris Trakel, a Marine Corps veteran. Trakel has previously run for the Senate, as well as for Caldwell City Council and Caldwell mayor. The winner in the GOP primary will run against Democrat Toni Ferro in November.
In the House, three legislative hopefuls vie for position B: Mike Miller, Kent Marmon and Chris Allgood. Allgood serves on the Caldwell City Council, while Marmon is a former council member. The Republican nominee will run against Democrat Marisela Pesina in November.
Rep. Julie Yamamoto, a freshman legislator, will face Democratic candidate Robert Scoville in the November general election.
