Several candidates are preparing to face off in the May 17 GOP primary to represent Idaho’s Legislative District 8.
Rep. Terry Gestrin, R-Donnelly, a six-term legislator, is now running for Senate in District 8, which covers Valley, Boise, Custer and Elmore counties. Gestrin faces three challengers in the primary: Gary Freeman, Jon Krueger and Geoffrey Schroeder.
Rep. Matt Bundy, R-Mountain Home, a freshman legislator, will face off against Rob Beiswenger for one of the District 8 House seats. The Republican nominee will run against Constitution Party candidate Steven Feil in the November general election.
House Majority Caucus Chair Megan Blanksma, R-Hammett, will run for reelection for the second District 8 House seat. Blanksma is the only Republican in the race, and will be challenged by Constitution Party candidate Tony Ullrich in November.
The Idaho Statesman sent surveys to each of the candidates in contested races on a variety of issues, including their priorities, what they wish the Legislature had done this session and what issues they think aren’t being discussed enough. Their responses are copied below, unedited.
Gestrin, Krueger and Beiswenger did not respond to the survey.
