Voters on May 17 will choose which Republican candidate for secretary of state will move on to the November general election.
The candidates are Ada County Clerk Phil McGrane, Rep. Dorothy Moon, of Stanley, and Sen. Mary Souza, of Coeur d’Alene. Secretary of State Lawerence Denney is not seeking a third term.
Secretaries of state are responsible for administering elections as well as registering business entities and licensing notaries public. They serve four-year terms.
Democrat Shawn Keenan, of Coeur d’Alene, is also running, but he won’t have a primary challenger.
The Idaho Statesman sent surveys to each of the primary election candidates, and their responses are copied below, unedited. They discuss their priorities for maintaining election integrity in Idaho.
Moon did not respond to the survey.
