Boise State quarterback Sears leaves team as Broncos await bowl destination
Boise State quarterback Jack Sears is no longer with the team, a spokesperson for the program confirmed on Wednesday.
The Broncos removed Sears from the online roster on Wednesday afternoon. He joined the team in 2020 after transferring from USC.
Sears started just one game for the Broncos and was impressive, racking up 280 passing yards and four touchdowns in a win at Air Force last season. Sears appeared in four games this season but completed just two passes.
Sears hasn’t officially announced that he plans to transfer and spend his final year of eligibility elsewhere, but that seems likely.
Three-year starting quarterback Hank Bachmeier will lead the Broncos into their bowl game, which should be announced on Sunday. The junior has two years of eligibility remaining because of COVID-19 rules. He’ll be backed up by true freshman Taylen Green, who enrolled early this year and joined the program in January.
The Broncos added two other quarterbacks in the offseason: freshmen Colt Fulton and Colton Fitzgerald. Boise State also has a verbal commitment from quarterback Maddux Madsen in its 2022 recruiting class.
