Boise State adds a dual-threat quarterback from Texas to its 2021 recruiting class

The Boise State football team didn’t add a quarterback to its 2020 recruiting class until late in the process. This time around, the Broncos didn’t waste any time.

On Friday, dual-threat quarterback Taylen Green announced his verbal commitment on Twitter. Boise State offered him a scholarship on June 30, according to 247Sports.

In his commitment video, Green said his decision came down to three Mountain West programs: San Diego State, which he praised for its tradition; Wyoming, which he called a program on the rise; and Boise State, which he called one of the most winning programs in the past 10 years.

He’s the fourth known member of the Broncos’ 2021 class, and the latest in a string of offensive playmakers to commit. Wide receiver Jalen Richmond announced his commitment June 30, and his high school teammate, running back Eli Sanders, joined a week later. Both have helped Chandler High in Arizona with four straight state titles.

Green — a 6-foot-5, 215-pound Lewisville, Texas, native — is a three-star recruit and the No. 24-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country, according to 247Sports. He also had offers from Central Michigan, UTEP, New Mexico State and Marshall, in addition to the Mountain West programs.

Last season was Green’s first at Lewisville High School after transferring from nearby Allen High. The Lions struggled their way to a 4-7 record, but he finished with 2,217 passing yards and 25 touchdowns, and added 445 yards and 12 more scores on the ground, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Sophomore quarterback Hank Bachmeier is expected to open the season as Boise State’s starter again after going 7-1 in that role last fall. Redshirt junior Chase Cord likely will figure heavily into the game plan, and in May, the Broncos added graduate transfer Jack Sears, who spent the past three years at USC.

Boise State also added a quarterback from Texas to its 2020 class. In February, the Broncos signed Cade Fennegan, who threw for 6,454 yards and 94 touchdowns and ran for 796 yards and 18 more scores in a three-year career as the starter at Woodrow Wilson in Dallas.
