Final: Boise State 31, Hawaii 10; Broncos win second Mountain West title in three seasons

The Boise State football team capped its perfect run in Mountain West play with a 31-10 victory over Hawaii in the conference title game Saturday afternoon at Albertsons Stadium.

It is the second Mountain West championship in three season for the No. 19 Broncos (12-1), who will learn their bowl fate on Sunday. It is likely Boise State will play in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Hawaii (9-5) entered Saturday’s game averaging 332.5 passing yards per game — a mark that ranks No. 6 in the nation — but the Broncos limited the Warriors to 241 passing yards and 320 yards total.

Meanwhile, Boise State senior quarterback Jaylon Henderson, who was voted the game’s offensive MVP, completed 20-of-29 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns through the air while rushing for 51 yards and another score.

Boise State senior nose tackle Sonatane Lui earned defensive MVP honors with five tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss and one forced fumble.

In the American Athletic Conference championship game, No. 16 Memphis defeated No. 21 Cincinnati 29-24. The Broncos needed the Bearcats to defeat Memphis in order to move up in the College Football Playoff rankings and earn the Group of Five’s New Year’s Six bowl bid. Memphis was at No. 17, while Boise State checked in at No. 19 in the lastest CFP rankings released Tuesday.
