Check out the 2026 Idaho Statesman Voter Guide for the May primary election

The 2026 primary election is Tuesday, May 19, and the Idaho Statesman’s Voter Guide provides an easy way to evaluate the candidates.

We reached out to all candidates in contested primaries in the Boise area and asked them to answer a few questions about their backgrounds, their priorities and key issues facing their constituents. The answers are presented in their own words.

You can access the entire Voter Guide at IdahoStatesman.com/voter-guide.

A few reminders about the election:

  • Only registered Republicans can vote in the closed Republican primary.
  • Many positions didn’t have a contested primary, so those candidates advance to the Nov. 3 general election. But this is a year in which all state offices and all Legislature seats are on the ballot in the general election.
  • You can access a sample ballot to find out what’s on yours at voteidaho.gov/on-the-ballots. At the same site, you can register, update your registration or check the status of your registration. You can also find your polling place.
