Who’s running for Canyon County coroner? Hear from the candidates

The Canyon County coroner will face a primary challenge in the May 19 election.

The coroner is responsible for investigating the cause of death in cases that are deemed “unexplained, unusual, suspicious, accidental, violent, or unattended by a physician,” according to the county coroner website. That also assist pathologists with autopsies as needed.

This year, longtime coroner Jennifer Crawford will face a newcomer, Sydney Walker, at the ballot box. Crawford, a Republican, has worked in the Canyon County Coroner’s office for 15 years, and has served as coroner for the past seven years. Walker, also a Republican, is a nonprofit manager, and running for the office for the first time.

The Statesman sent both candidates a questionnaire to help voters better understand their priorities in their own words. Their responses, unedited, appear in the graphic below.
