Republicans in Idaho’s legislative District 14 will pick between two state Senate candidates this primary season: Sen. C. Scott Grow and Mac Raslan.

Grow, the incumbent from Eagle, is seeking his sixth term at the Capitol though his fifth election. He first joined the Senate by appointment in 2018 after Meridian Republican Marv Hagedorn vacated the seat to run for lieutenant governor. Last session, Grow was the state’s sixth-longest-serving senator, entrenching himself in powerful roles as chair of the Senate Finance Committee and co-chair of the budget-setting Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee during his time in office.

On May 19, he’ll face off against Emmett Republican Mac Raslan, a journeyman HVAC technician and Gem County business owner. A relative newcomer to politics, Raslan most recently ran in a 2024 primary race for a seat on the Gem County Commission, losing to incumbent Kirk Wille. This is his first attempt at a state-level office.

The Senate race is the district’s only competitive primary. The winner is slated to run against Constitution Party candidate Kirsten Faith Richardson of Emmett in the general election this fall. There’s no Democrat in the race: Ariel Olvera of Eagle initially filed, but withdrew in March.

Elsewhere on the ballot, Eagle Republican Rep. Sen. Josh Tanner is seeking his third term in House Seat B. He’s uncontested in the primary, but is set to face Democrat Valerie Ruxton of Eagle in November. In the race for House Seat A, incumbent Republican Rep. Ted Hill of Eagle will meet Emmett Democrat Jo Daly in the general election Hill’s primary opponent withdrew from the contest in early March.

District 14 covers all of Gem County and northwest Ada County, notably Eagle and parts of Star, a fast-growing area. You can find your legislative district here, and look up your polling place here. To learn more about these and other local races, check out the Idaho Statesman’s Voter Guide.

The Statesman conducted routine background checks on both candidates in the contested Senate primary, and sent both candidates a questionnaire to help voters better understand their priorities in their own words. Here are their responses, unedited, in the graphic below.
