The Ada County Coroner’s Office has identified the 18-year-old who died in a single-vehicle crash on South Meridian Road early Thursday morning.

In a news release on Friday, the coroner’s office identified the deceased as Matthew Cox of Kuna. Cox’s cause and manner of death are still pending.

The Meridian Police Department said Thursday that Cox lost control of his vehicle while driving a 2001 Jaguar sedan northbound on South Meridian Road near East Columbia Road. The car left the roadway, rolled and struck a power pole, the department said.

Meridian police are looking for witnesses to the accident.

The crash is one of a string of serious vehicle accidents involving young adults in the last week, including a crash in Payette County in which another driver was seriously injured after losing control of their vehicle and crashing into a power pole. In Canyon County, a 19-year-old died in a crash when he failed to yield at a stop sign, Idaho State Police said.
