Young driver dies after hitting power pole in Meridian. Detectives seek witnesses
A Meridian vehicle crash killed one person Thursday after the driver lost control. Law enforcement is seeking witnesses to help in its investigation.
An 18-year-old man was driving a 2001 black Jaguar sedan north on South Meridian Road when he lost control of his vehicle at about 3:23 a.m. Thursday, according to an Ada County Sheriff’s Office news release.
As he approached East Columbia Road, the driver “lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway” before rolling and striking a power pole, the sheriff’s office said.
The man, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, died from his injuries at the scene.
“Detectives believe speed may be a contributing factor,” the sheriff’s office said.
The Ada County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.
The agency asked any witnesses to the crash or anyone who has information about it to contact detectives by emailing ACSOTips@adacounty.id.gov or calling 208-377-6790. Tips can also be sent anonymously using the Ada County Sheriff’s Office mobile app.
Law enforcement responded to a similar crash involving a 21-year-old driver losing control, rolling and hitting a power pole just hours earlier in Payette County. That driver was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Earlier in the week, a 19-year-old driver died in Canyon County when he failed to yield at a stop sign, Idaho State Police said.
