Coronavirus: Idaho sees deadliest day with 11 deaths reported in 5 counties
Monday marked Idaho’s deadliest day since the pandemic reached Idaho in March, as 11 new deaths were attributed to the coronavirus.
Three of the deaths were in Ada County, four in Canyon County, two in Kootenai County, one in Twin Falls County and one in Bannock County. The state has seen 56 deaths in the past 13 days resulting from the virus.
With 477 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus reported Monday, the state has now seen 17,578 cases of the virus among Idahoans.
Ada County saw 82 new cases Monday, bringing the county total to 6,763 people who have tested positive, according to Boise-based Central District Health. For the past seven days, Ada County’s average was 158 new confirmed cases.
Canyon County saw an increase of 145 new cases Monday, bringing the county total to 4,124 infected people, according to Southwest District Health. The county has averaged 130 new cases per day over the past seven days.
As of Monday, 159 Idahoans had died as a result of the coronavirus.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare also reported 38 new “probable cases,” bringing the total number of probable cases to 1,129 Additionally, 5,964 people are now considered to be “recovered” from the virus.
The state also reported 19 new health care worker infections Monday, bringing the total number of health care workers with the virus to 1,076.
Other counties reporting cases Monday include: Nez Perce 1 less (total 108), Latah 6 new (67 total), Boise 1 less (total 25), Elmore 2 new (144 total), Kootenai 16 new (1,314 total), Benewah 2 new (33 total), Bonner 2 new (128 total), Boundary 1 new (30 total), Shoshone 15 new (55 total), Bannock 15 new (278 total), Bear Lake 1 new (10 total), Bingham 11 new (162 total), Franklin lost 1 (38 total) Power 5 new (34 total), Adams 1 new (16 total), Payette 7 new (265 total), Gem 4 new (121 total), Owyhee 7 new (180 total), Washington 1 new (158 total), Bonneville 15 new (404 total), Fremont lost 3 (28 total), Jefferson 4 new (76 total), Madison 1 new (90 total), Twin Falls 62 new (971 total), Blaine 3 new (548 total), Cassia 21 new (388 total), Minidoka 28 new (366 total), Jerome 19 new (338 total), Gooding 6 new (105 total) and Lincoln 1 new (43 total).
Masks are mandatory in all of Ada County, by order of Central District Health, and masks are recommended in Canyon County, by order of Southwest District Health. Idaho Gov. Brad Little has repeatedly stressed that all residents should wear masks in public, saying it is a public health issue and it could save lives.

Hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 750 hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, 224 admissions to the ICU and 1,076 health care workers who have been infected. The hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.
Testing totals: At the end of the day Monday, Health and Welfare reported that 169,588 tests had been completed statewide. About 10.4% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
