Idaho surpassed 17,000 total coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, according to numbers reported by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and Eastern Idaho Public Health on Sunday.

Across the state, 357 new cases were reported Sunday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 17,101 since Idaho’s first recorded case in mid-March. That’s an increase of 3,000 cases in the space of a week — last Sunday, Idaho had just over 14,000 total cases.

Over the last month, Ada and Canyon counties have proven to be hotspots for the virus, and that trend continued Sunday as Ada County reported 152 new infections and Canyon County reported 94. Ada County has had 6,681 total COVID-19 diagnoses, while Canyon County has had 3,979.

Kootenai County, home to Coeur d’Alene, also reported double-digit cases Sunday. Officials recorded 51 new infections, bringing the county’s total to 1,298 cases. Bonneville County in eastern Idaho was the only other county to report a double-digit increase with 25 new cases.

Nine other counties reported new cases Sunday: Adams (1 new, 15 total), Bonner (1 new, 126 total), Elmore (7 new, 142 total), Gem (4 new, 117 total), Jefferson (5 new, 72 total), Madison (4 new, 89 total), Owyhee (5 new, 173 total), Payette (4 new, 258 total) and Washington (4 new, 157 total).

The state subtracted one “probable” case on Sunday, bringing the total probable cases to 1,091. Officials reported 248 more patients who are presumed to have recovered from COVID-19. In total, 5,731 people are presumed recovered.
