‘One of the best pizza spots in Idaho’ closed in Meridian. This opens there next

Franchise chain restaurant or not, Proper Pizza and its thin, sesame-seed crust made some real fans in Meridian.

So when it closed at 2845 E. Overland Road, suite 100, regulars had to be bummed. Cheesed, even.

“Proper Pizza is hands-down one of the best pizza spots in Idaho,” raved a 5-star review a few months ago on Google, where it racked up an impressive 4.6 stars out of 5.

Could a dirty Thai tea cheer up former pizza junkies instead?

Boran Coffee Lounge plans to open in the recently vacated spot at El Dorado Business Campus, according to Meridian city permits. The food-and-drink concept also intends to take over the adjacent suite 110, which formerly held a U.S. Army career center. The two areas will be connected by a 14-foot-wide opening knocked out between the spaces, according to the project description.

Details about a potential opening date were not available, and Boran Coffee Lounge did not immediately respond to a message. But the soon-to-open java hangout has created a website and set up social media accounts. And the process of moving equipment into the space has begun.

“Ever wish coffee shops felt a little less rushed? We’re creating something different,” the lounge posted on Facebook. “A place where conversations last longer, coffee tastes better, and every guest feels at home.”

“Persian hospitality. Thai warmth. Timeless connection,” Boran’s website promises.

The food menu posted by Boran Coffee Lounge features small bites such as hummus and coconut shrimp, plus larger options such as gyros, panininis, bowls and salads. Half a dozen dessert options will be offered. Breakfast, lunch and dinner services are mentioned on the website.

Coffee options range from classic styles such as mocha, cappuccino and French press to Thai, Persian, Turkish and more. There also are a variety of teas, and beer and wine will be served, the website says.

To match the online-review enthusiasm for its pizza-slinging predecessor, Boran Coffee will need to execute at a high level. Its marketing spiel sounds ready for the challenge.

“Whether you’re beginning your day, hosting a meaningful conversation, or unwinding into the evening,” its website says, “Boran offers an atmosphere that feels both worldly and intimate.”
