Yum, Meridian. This ‘top-notch’ Boise restaurant is about to become a local chain

Soon after Neighbor Tim’s BBQ opened five years ago on Boise’s West Bench, expansion plans started cooking.

Slowly. Much like the meat in its offset wood-burning smoker.

In 2022, the family-owned barbecue joint expanded downtown, becoming an anchor vendor inside The Warehouse Food Hall.

Now four years later, a third location is coming — to Meridian.

Raising its game as a local chain, Neighbor Tim’s soon will open another brick-and-mortar restaurant at 1410 W. McMillan Road. The new store — in a former Gandolfo’s New York Deli space — is slated to open in mid-September, Neighbor Tim’s wrote on social media.

“Same BBQ menu as our other two locations,” the post explained, “and of course smokin’ the same awesome Thomas Cattle Company beef.”

Neighbor Tim’s specializes in meats such as Texas brisket, pulled pork, ribs and tri-tip, along with the traditional sides diners expect: mac ‘n’ cheese, coleslaw, baked beans and the like.

The drive-thru at 7802 W. Goddard Road ranks 4.4 out of 5 stars on Yelp and 4.5 on Google. Its Warehouse Food Hall location at 370 S. 8th St. doesn’t fare as well — pulling a 3.4 and a 4.1.

Barbecue, in general, tends to trigger wide-ranging opinions. But folks who like Neighbor Tim’s seem to really like it.

“The food was INCREDIBLE!” a recent five-star Google review raves about the West Bench restaurant. “I cannot say enough good things — brisket was top-notch, and the sides were perfection. Some of the best food I have had in Boise.”

Better grab a pile of napkins, Meridian.
