After opening its first Boise-area restaurant in Kuna, California chain exits Idaho
A pizza chain hungry for a piece of Boise’s competitive restaurant pie has exited Idaho.
And, unless something changes, the brand won’t return anytime soon.
Pieology, which debuted early last year at the Ridley’s Family Supermarkets Shopping Center in Kuna, closed permanently Aug. 22, according to a publicist for the chain.
The store at 1327 N. Meridian Road was opened by a California transplant who, along with her husband and a business partner, signed a development rights agreement to open five Idaho franchise locations. The hope was to expand to other parts of the Treasure Valley — maybe even Twin Falls.
But now there are no plans for Pieology locations in Idaho, the publicist said in an email.
Founded in 2011, Pieology is headquartered in Tustin, California. Its restaurants are “down-the-line” pizzerias. Customers can purchase signature pizzas or choose ingredients while moving down a service line. Employees — “Pieologists” — spread them on the crust. Then the individual-sized pies get baked at high heat.
Pieology operates 95 locations nationwide. Its chief competitors are larger chains Blaze Pizza and Mod Pizza, which continue to operate in Idaho.
