No longer ‘able to stay,’ family-owned Boise restaurant to close downtown. What next?
After nearly six years, a family-owned restaurant in downtown Boise will close — but with an eye toward returning elsewhere.
Meraki Greek Street Food, 345 S. 8th St., has let customers know that change is coming.
“Sadly, we recently learned that Meraki will no longer be able to stay at our current location in BoDo,” the restaurant wrote on its Facebook page. “... We hope to find a new spot quickly as our goal is to keep our amazing staff with us. With that being said, the reality is — these things can take time.”
The fast-casual eatery is popular for its authentic gyros, stuffed with marinated meat, tomato, onion, french fries and tzatziki sauce.
“Our guests deserve to have pita bread baked fresh daily, sauces made from scratch, and fresh produce,” co-owner Aki Kalatzakis, a first-generation Greek-American, told the Idaho Statesman when the restaurant opened in 2016, “so that they can really get that authentic Greek experience.”
On Facebook, Meraki did not indicate why it must move. A text message to co-owner Farrah Kalatzakis was not returned.
The BoDo district is on track to become busier as a food-and-drink destination soon. The Warehouse Food Hall is slated to open nearby at 370 S. 8th St. in July.
Meraki’s last day in BoDo will be May 23.
