Ready to dine out, Boise? This restaurant made Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in 2021.
With Idahoans venturing out again, restaurants are anticipating a busy summer.
If you’re a Boise dining enthusiast looking for something new to try, here’s an idea: Hit the only Idaho restaurant to make food review website Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat for 2021.
In other words, drive a few miles. To Nampa.
Brick 29 Bistro, 320 11th Ave. S., is no secret to Treasure Valley foodies. Still, newcomers might not be aware of this Canyon County standout, which has been churning out top-notch cuisine since 2007.
In 2018, the Idaho Statesman re-reviewed Brick 29, which had recently relocated to the top floor of the Masonic Temple building.
Owner and chef Dustan Bristol — a three-time James Beard Award semifinalist — “has worked miracles in Idaho’s third-largest city,” according to the Statesman review, “serving reimagined comfort food that attracted foodies and non-adventurous eaters alike. He’s definitely tapped into something special by offering fare that’s nuanced yet still highly recognizable. (Sorry, no foie gras here.)”
Accessible yet elevated? That’s a recipe for success in these parts.
When it comes to Yelp’s annual Top 100 Places to Eat list, Boise gets no respect. In 2020, Ten/6 of Coeur d’Alene was the only Idaho restaurant included. (Then it closed weeks later.) In 2019, the Gem State didn’t make the list at all. In fact, it doesn’t look like Idaho ever made the list until last year. So congratulations to Brick 29, which finished at No. 78 and has a 4 1/2-star Yelp rating. Let’s keep the streak going, Idaho.
Being honored among the nation’s top 100 does take good fortune. For the first time, Yelp asked its community for nominations back in December. Prior to that, Yelp’s “data science team pulled the top restaurants by ratings and number of reviews,” the website explained.
How will Yelp determine its top U.S. dining spots next year? Good question. But if you’re hoping for a Boise restaurant to make the list, it might help to watch the Yelp blog for requests to suggest eateries.
