Highlights: Defending champ Timberline punches ticket to state. See all the top plays

Reigning state champ Timberline held off a late Mountain View charge Tuesday, securing a 48-41 win at home that clinched the Wolves a berth in next week’s 5A girls basketball state tournament.

Emmi Swillie paced Timberline (20-5) with 10 points and nine rebounds. Piper Davis added 10 points, six rebounds and two assists, and Grace Mertes scored 10 points off the bench.

Timberline led throughout. Mountain View (12-13) cut the lead to six points in the fourth quarter, but it could never get any closer.

Demi Thompson scored 14 points, and Kendrie Judd added 10 for the Mavericks. Mountain View will face Thunder Ridge in a state play-in game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Burley High.
