Idaho teen picked for another international soccer match, joining exclusive list

Mountain View grad Marisol Stosich has already made a trio of game-day rosters for the Guatemalan women’s soccer team. And the 18-year-old gets a chance to make her fourth next week.

The forward received another call-up to Guatemala’s senior national team camp this week. She was one of 24 players named to the training roster for a Tuesday friendly against El Salvador in Guatemala.

“I’m still super excited every time I get called up, and proud, especially for my mom and her part of her culture,” Stosich said in a phone interview from training camp in Guatemala. “... I’m just excited to keep showing up and proving that it wasn’t like a one-time thing.”

Stosich made her international debut for her mother’s home country as a 16-year-old in 2024 against Colombia. She also previously made the game-day roster for a pair of friendlies against Chile that summer, but did not enter the game. And an ankle injury sidelined her for a 2025 match against Ecuador.

Her continued opportunities show Guatemala coaches believe she has a long-term role on its senior national team.

“I feel like over time, I’ve become a more experienced soccer player just by playing with professional women, and also against them,” Stosich said. “There’s definitely a difference in the game with speed, intensity and just skills in general.

“Performing under pressure has become something that I’ve been able to manage better. The first time, I would get really nervous before a game or if there’s a big crown. But now I feel a lot more comfortable under that pressure. I feel like it’s shaped me to become a better player.”

After signing with Utah Valley in November, Stosich graduated from Mountain View in December and started training with her college team for the upcoming season.

She left Mountain View as a three-time, first-team all-state selection. She racked up 101 goals and 34 assists in her high school career while playing for Thunder Ridge, Boise and Mountain View. The Utah native led each school to a state tournament appearance.

Stosich joins a short list of former Idaho high school stars with caps for a senior women’s national soccer team.

Centennial High grad Sofia Huerta (2011) has made 32 appearances for the U.S., including an appearance at the 2023 World Cup, after starting her international career with five caps with Mexico.

American Falls High grad Maria Sanchez (2014) first broke in with Mexico’s senior team at the 2015 World Cup. The Nampa native captained Mexico to a gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games and has become a regular for her parent’s home country.
