How many records will fall at Idaho state track meet? Here’s our best guess
Nearly three-dozen records could be broken at the Idaho high school state track and field championships this weekend.
Action takes place Friday and Saturday at Mountain View (6A/5A) and Middleton (4A/3A/2A) high schools.
The Idaho Statesman breaks down the athletes to keep an eye on if you’re hoping to witness history:
OVERALL/6A
GIRLS
Christine Huckins, Capital: She set records in both the 100 (11.62) and 200 (24.16) in 2024, and it’s likely Huckins will break her own records this week. She’s already run 11.61 in the 100 and 23.58 in the 200 this spring.
4x100 relay, Capital: Grace Russell, Veronika Russell, Huckins and Eden Francis set a district record last week of 46.95, which is better than the current state record set by the Eagles last season (47.45).
4x400 relay, Capital: Huckins, Amelie Purcell, Alena Garrison and Cadence Mitchell ran a 3:53.76 to win the district meet last week. That time would beat the record of 3:54.60 set by Boise in 2024.
BOYS
Spencer Van Orden, Highland: He already owns the classification record in the 110 hurdles (13.90) but could topple the overall meet record of 13.69 from Emmett’s Landon Helms in 2022 after running a 13.55 at last week’s district championships. He’s also likely to break the 300 hurdles record of 37.44 set in 2010 by Borah’s AJ Boully. Van Orden ran a 36.60 on May 9.
4x200 relay, Mountain View: Omar Osman, Behr Scott, Catcher Gennette and Jacob Allen won the district championship in 1:26.17, which is better than the record of 1:26.42 established by Kuna last season.
CLASS 5A
GIRLS
Leah Pebley, Hillcrest: She cleared 5-7 in the high jump on May 2, which is just a half-inch shy of the classification record of 5-7.5 set by Lakeland’s Jordan Ward in 2013.
BOYS
Jackson Wallace, Wood River: He clocked at 48.63 to win the 400 at the District Four meet last week. That’s just a smidgen off the classification record of 48.60 established by Twin Falls’ Daulton Monkress in 2022.
Kenyon Carter, Emmett: His best time in the 300 hurdles was a 37.50 on May 2 at the PACS BYU Invitational. Run that time again and he’ll break the class record of 37.82 from Rigby’s Scott Mecham in 2012.
4x200 relay, Bishop Kelly: Beck Humphrey, Mason Schweitzer, Owen Kane and Dylan Gale have run a 1:27.23 this season, which would surpass the record of 1:28.11 from Ridgevue in 2024.
4x400 relay, Vallivue: Jackson McDonald, Dawson Mann, Jakobe Davis and David Gummersall qualified for state with a district-winning time of 3:20.97. The class record is 3:21.87 by Skyview in 2006.
Alex Rushton, Burley: With a season-best clearance of 7-0 in the high jump, he’d easily beat the class record of 6-8 by Moscow’s Wade Schumaker from 2012. The overall record is 7-1.5.
CLASS 4A
GIRLS
Karlie Bair, Kimberly: With the defending champion and class record holder in the field (Fruitland’s Lydia Lindsey), a record is likely to be set again in the 100. Bair has clocked a 12.11 this season, which is better than Lindsey’s record of 12.28 from last year’s state prelims.
Isabella Burnett, Kimberly: Last month, Burnett ran a 56.66 in the 400 at the Middleton Invite. She’s qualified for state and eyeing the record of 57.37 from Kuna’s Tina McCombs, which has stood since 1984.
Annabelle Carr, Coeur d’Alene Charter: She matched the class record of 2:13.79 in the 800 in 2024. Now she’s set to beat it after running a 2:12.80 earlier this season. She’ll also be close in the 1,600 with a season best of 5:04.25 compared to the record of 5:03.60.
4x200 relay, Kimberly: Renetta Welch, Hannah Fisher, Samantha Hardy and Isabella Burnett won their district meet in 1:44.02. That’s better than Snake River’s meet record of 1:44.10 from 2003.
4x400 relay, Coeur d’Alene Charter: Sofia Peppin, Annabelle Carr, Reagan Meine and Emmaline Carr are seeded first in the event at 3:57.04. The class record is 4:01.70 from Kimberly in 2018.
800 medley relay, Kimberly: Evelyn Hollist, Hannah Baird, Maizee Olsen and Isabella Burnett are poised to blow the current record (1:51.24) out of the water thanks to a season-best 1:48.05 in the event.
Lydia Townsend, Marsh Valley: She can match her record from last season (11-6) in the pole vault.
Olyvia Denison, Payette: The current class record holder (Fruitland’s Lindsey) is in this year’s field, but Denison is poised to break that record of 18-9 with a season-best of 18-10 from last week. Denison could also snatch the triple jump record (37-9.5) after a personal-best of 37-10.5 from the district meet.
BOYS
4x100 relay, Cole Valley Christian: Aiden Shanks, Ethan Minegar, Christian Nicolas and Kruger Sipe won the district meet in 42.53. The class record is 42.80 by Weiser last season. The same quartet is close in the 4x200, running 1:29.66 compared to the record of 1:29.33.
CLASS 3A
GIRLS
Avery Reece, Nampa Christian: She qualified for state with a 100 time of 12.33, which is better than the class record of 12.37 set by Orofino’s Ellen Rouse in 2008.
4x100 relay, Firth: Depending on what runners the Cougars choose, they have clocked a 49.45 this season. The class record is 49.55 from Melba in 2023.
BOYS
Ethan Willis, West Side: He posted a 1:53.62 in the 800 at the PACS BYU Invitational on May 2. That’s good enough to beat the class record of 1:54.10 from Grangeville’s Ryun Carver in 1997.
4x100 relay, Aberdeen: Guadalupe Ortiz, Maximilian Klassen, Jose Medel and Emanuel Barrera ran 43.37 on May 1 at the Brad Matthews Invitational. The record is 43.34 by Cole Valley Christian in 2018.
4x200 relay, Nampa Christian: Luke Mills, Tyler Szilagyi, Thomas Duerre and Ian Johnson won their district meet in 1:29.54, which would beat the record of 1:30.11 by Cole Valley Christian in 2018.
Rawley Calder, West Jefferson: He’ll need to improve his season best (23-2.5) in the long jump by an inch to match the class record of 23-3.5 that’s stood since 1983.
CLASS 2A
GIRLS
Madison Spriggs, Glenns Ferry: She won her district meet in the 100 in 12.28, which is faster than the 12.41 Challis’ Hannah Cain posted in the 2014 prelims.
4x100 relay, Valley: Journey Fenton, Daisy Flores, Joanie Lewis and Lexi Huettig ran a 50.38 last week, which would be fast enough to best Carey’s record of 50.76 from last year.
4x200 relay, Logos: Elizabeth Evans, Bethany Porras, Emily Bowen and Naomi Taylor clocked a 1:45.25 at their district meet. The class record is 1:46.61 by Raft River in 2022.
Lilly Stebbins, Challis: She’s back after setting the class record on her way to a victory in the high jump (5-8) in 2024.
Lexi Huettig, Valley: She set the class record at 11-0 in the pole vault last season. Now she’s back with a season-best clearance of 11-6. Watch for her to do the same in the long jump, where she holds the record of 18-4.25 and has a best this season of 18-6. She also owns the class record in the triple jump (37-11.5).
BOYS
Keaton Archibald, Butte County: Fresh off a leap of 22-9.75 in the long jump at his district meet, he’ll go for the class record of 22-5.75 from Valley’s Kyle Christensen in 2023.
