District softball: Mtn. View, Owyhee make state. Cole Valley, Nampa Christian win titles

Two more teams punched their tickets to state in 6A SIC softball district tournament action Wednesday afternoon, while championships were handed out in the 4A SRV and 3A WIC.

Here were the top highlights of the day from the diamonds around the Boise area.

6A SIC SOFTBALL DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

OWYHEE 7, ROCKY MOUNTAIN 0: A day after getting upset in the semifinals, the top-seeded Storm roared back to life with a shutout victory over the No. 6 Grizzlies.

The win assures Owyhee a spot at state, which runs May 15-17 at Eagle and Owyhee high schools.

Storm pitcher Hailey Bock delivered a gem, allowing just one hit and striking out eight while also going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Shortstop Sobella Malliarodakis and catcher Haiylee Reeves each hit home runs, including Reeves’ grand slam to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Left fielder Aubrey Sorensen had the lone hit for the Grizzlies, which can still snag a state berth with a victory over Capital on Thursday.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 10, CAPITAL 6: Third baseman Kiki Bangham connected on a pair of home runs to spark the Mavericks’ win over the Eagles.

Bangham hit a two-run shot to center field in the bottom of the first inning and then launched another two-run bomb in the bottom of the sixth that gave Mountain View a 10-3 lead.

Pitcher Katy Jackson also hit a home run and earned the complete-game win to punch Mountain View’s ticket to state.

Audrey McKibben and Lizzy Turpen both hit home runs for Capital, which can advance to state with a win against Rocky Mountain on Thursday.

4A SRV SOFTBALL DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 9, WEISER 5: The Chargers hoisted their third straight district championship with a victory over Weiser.

Both teams advance to the state tournament May 15-17 at Skyview High in Nampa.

Cole Valley Christian totaled 14 hits, with Lauren Colson, Karlie Barnum and Brinkley Lauderdale registering three apiece. Barnum also earned the win in the circle, giving up five hits and four earned runs over seven innings while striking out seven.

Shortstop Alli Navarette paced Weiser with a 2-for-4 outing at the plate.

3A WIC SOFTBALL DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

NAMPA CHRISTIAN 9, PARMA 5: Down 5-0 after four innings, the Trojans rallied with four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to beat the Panthers and claim a district championship.

Both team qualify for state May 15-17 at Quad Park in Caldwell.

Third baseman Macy Boothby tied the game at 5-all with a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning, and pitcher Peyton Shook smacked the go-ahead, two-run double for the Trojans.

Shook also earned the win in the circle, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while striking out 14 without a single walk.

Center fielder Kinlea Cole and third baseman Lakota Leppert each had two hits for Parma.

SOFTBALL

Hailey Bock, Owyhee: Pitched a one-hit shutout in a 7-0 victory over Rocky Mountain, striking out eight. She helped her own cause with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate in the 6A SIC district tournament game.

Kiki Bangham, Mountain View: Finished 2-for-4 at the plate, highlighted by a pair of two-run home runs to left field to punch the Mavericks’ ticket to the state tournament with a 10-6 win over Capital in the 6A SIC district tournament.

Makenna Shamy, Skyview: Allowed just three hits and no earned runs in a 12-1, five-inning win over Caldwell while striking out seven and walking one in a 5A SIC district tournament elimination game. She also went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Haylee Holloway, Nampa: Moved the Bulldogs a step closer to the state tournament with a 4-3 win over Vallivue in a 5A SIC district tournament elimination game. Holloway was 2-for-4 at the plate and pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run while striking out eight.

Karlie Barnum, Cole Valley Christian: Led the Chargers to their third straight district championship, topping Weiser 9-5 in 4A SRV action. Barnum was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and earned the win in the circle, allowing five hits and four earned runs over seven innings while striking out seven.

Maite Stringer, Fruitland: Got the Grizzlies off to a fast start in a 5-4 win over Homedale in the 4A SRV district tournament, connecting on a two-run home run to left field and finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Peyton Shook, Nampa Christian: Hit the go-ahead, two-run double in the sixth inning to lift the Trojans to a 3A WIC district title. Shook also picked up the win in the circle, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while striking out 14 without a walk.

Kyla Harris, Melba: Blasted a three-run home run to left field in the third inning and finished 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs as the Mustangs topped Marsing 14-10 in the 3A WIC district tournament to earn a spot in a state play-in game.
