District softball: Middleton, BK advance to 5A SIC title game, 6A SIC semis set

The 6A SIC district softball tournament got into full swing Monday, with four teams earning spots in Tuesday’s semifinals.

Meanwhile, the 5A SIC district tournament championship field is set.

6A SIC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

OWYHEE 8, CAPITAL 3: The top-seeded Storm rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning for a victory in the first round of the 6A SIC tournament.

Haiylee Reeves hit a three-run home run to left field, and McKenna Schab later followed with a grand slam to center. Grace Brooks and Elysa Gaytan each added a hit for Owyhee, which plays No. 4 Eagle in the semifinals Tuesday.

McKenna Chavez led Capital with a 2-for-3 performance, including a home run, triple and two RBIs.

EAGLE 8, KUNA 2: The Mustangs racked up 10 hits to upend the Kavemen for a spot in the 6A SIC district tournament semifinals.

Peyton Bargen led the way with an all-round effort, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run. She also picked up the win in the circle, allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out eight.

Aly Vieira and Brooke Frame chipped in with two hits apiece for Eagle.

Elle Wemhoff accounted for Kuna’s only RBI on a double to center field in the top of the third inning.

TIMBERLINE 17, CENTENNIAL 3 (5 innings): Senior Delaney Wright served as the Wolves’ workhorse in a first-round rout of the Patriots.

Wright earned the complete-game win in the circle, allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out nine. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and six RBIs.

Ashlyn Graklanoff and Ivy Norskog also had hot bats, registering four hits apiece for Timberline, which draws No. 3 Mountain View in Tuesday’s semifinals.

Avery Simpson paced the Patriots with a 2-for-2 showing at the plate with two RBIs.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 9, ROCKY MOUNTAIN 4: The Mavericks plated eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruised to a first-round victory over the Grizzlies.

Kiki Bangham finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, and Brooke Austin belted a two-run home run to right field in the first inning. Katy Jackson picked up the win in the circle, striking out 12 without a walk.

Aubrey Sorensen (2-for-3, RBI) was the only Grizzly to register multiple hits.

5A SIC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

MIDDLETON 10, SKYVIEW 3: The Vikings punched their ticket to state with a victory over the Hawks in the semifinals of the 5A SIC district tournament.

Middleton used a well-rounded effort, with five players registering two hits, and Libby Garcia closed out the win in the circle. Garcia lasted seven innings, striking out 11 while also going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Natalie Miklancic hit a pair of doubles to go with two RBI and a run scored, and Rylee Rodriguez had a triple among her two hits for the Vikings, who face Bishop Kelly for the district title on Thursday.

Ella McMullen led Skyvew with three hits.

BISHOP KELLY 16, VALLIVUE 1 (5 innings): The Knights will try for their fourth district championship in five seasons after a big win over the Falcons in the 5A SIC semifinals.

Bishop Kelly racked up 18 hits led by senior Lauren Fettic, who went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Fettic also earned the win in the circle, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out nine.

Freshman Jaynie Burke added two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored and was among seven Knights to register multiple hits.

Evonny Gonzales had Vallivue’s lone RBI.

McKenna Schab, Owyhee: Smacked a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete the Storm’s rally to a win over Capital in the first round of the 6A SIC tournament.

Delaney Wright, Timberline: Guided the Wolves to a 17-3, five-inning win over Centennial by earning the win in the circle. Wright allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out nine. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and six RBIs.

Kiki Bangham, Mountain View: Led the Mavericks in a 9-4 victory over Rocky Mountain with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, including two doubles and two RBIs.

Peyton Bargen, Eagle: Earned a complete-game win, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out eight in an 8-2 win over Kuna. Bargen also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run.

Ruby Balderaz, Caldwell: Finished 3-for-4 at the plate as the Cougars rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning for a victory over Emmett in a loser-out 5A SIC district tournament game.

Natalie Miklancic, Middleton: Hit a pair of doubles and added two RBIs and a run scored in three plate appearances as the Vikings topped Skyview 10-3 in the 5A SIC district tournament semifinals.

Lauren Fettic, Bishop Kelly: Led the Knights to a 16-1, five-inning win over Vallivue in the 5A SIC district semifinals, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Fettic also earned the win in the circle, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out nine.

Lola Crosby, Cole Valley Christian: Went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a team-leading three RBIs as the Chargers earned a state berth with a 12-2, six-inning win over Payette in the 4A SRV district tournament semifinals.

Ellie Shirts, Weiser: Hit for the cycle with a single, double, triple and home run to go with eight RBIs in the Wolverines’ state-qualifying victory over McCall-Donnelly in the 4A SRV district tournament semifinals.
