6A SIC DISTRICT BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

RIDGEVUE 10, CAPITAL 9: Warhawks senior Chance Schreiber stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and his team trailing by two in the bottom of the sixth inning. And he didn’t waste the opportunity.

Schreiber ripped a bases-clearing double into right field to send Ridgevue into the winners’ side of its three-team regional qualifier. The seventh-seeded Warhawks (11-8-1) will face No. 4 Rocky Mountain (17-7) at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Schreiber’s double capped the scoring in a back-and-forth game that saw Ridgevue jump out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning before Capital slowly but surely rallied to take the lead.

Jameson Deitz went 2-for-3 with a double, and Jaxon Johnson drove in two runs to lead the Warhawks at the plate. Brady Ruzicka tripled and drove in a run for Capital (11-14), which faces the loser of Ridgevue-Rocky Mountain at 6 p.m. Friday in the losers’ bracket of their three-team regional qualifier.

EAGLE 15, TIMBERLINE 3 (5 innings): Timberline hung two runs in the top of the first inning. But the Mustangs answered with seven runs in their half of the frame, jumping out to a commanding lead before rolling to a mercy-rule win in the opening game of their three-team regional qualifier.

Easton Gothberg and Owen Brent each tallied two-run singles in the bottom of the first inning, and Brady Ford added a two-run triple in the second inning as the Mustangs scored in all four trips to the plate.

Brent topped the box score with a 2-for-3 night that included four RBIs, while Andrew Palfreyman and Jack Swanstrom each added doubles.

The sixth-seeded Mustangs (13-9) advance to face No. 5 Mountain View (15-8) at 6 p.m. Thursday. The winner advances to the finals of their regional qualifier, while the loser faces Timberline (7-16) at 6 p.m. Friday.

5A SIC DISTRICT BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

VALLIVUE 11, COLUMBIA 1 (6 innings): The second-seeded Falcons bounced back from an upset loss Monday thanks to Cooper Crutcher’s performance on the mound and at the plate.

The senior went the distance, holding Columbia (7-17) to one run on one hit while striking six. He also helped his own cause at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a two-run triple in the fourth inning.

Eli Daniel also tripled, Aaron Rayo went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Baren Vadapalli triggered the 10-run mercy rule with a line-drive single to right field in the sixth inning.

The Falcons (22-3) will host Nampa at 3 p.m. Thursday in another losers’ bracket game at Vallivue.

NAMPA 8, EMMETT 1: Only the state’s pitch count rules could slow Nampa pitcher Jaxon Wade in another losers’ bracket game at the 5A district tournament.

The junior limited Emmett (4-17) to one run while scattering six hits and striking out six through 6 ⅔ innings. The Bulldogs pulled him at 85 pitches, meaning he could return to pitch Saturday in the district’s second-place game. But Nampa (11-12) will first need to upset host Vallivue on Thursday.

Nampa jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, using a two-run single from Ryker Good and RBI singles from Ethan Stauffer and Bradley Norman to give Wade more than enough cushion.
