District baseball recap: Timberline scores upset, Eagle and Ridgevue cruise

The 6A SIC District Baseball Tournament kicked off Tuesday with four play-in games.

6A SIC DISTRICT BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

EAGLE 12, MERIDIAN 0: Three Mustang pitchers combined for a shutout, carrying Eagle to a five-inning win in the district play-in round.

Junior Stephen Egan earned the win, pitching three innings while allowing two hits, striking out four and walking just one. Fellow juniors Dallin Snooks and Jacob Ames each pitched an inning for the Mustangs.

Junior Caleb Zawadzki was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Kristian Fusco and Brady Ford added two hits apiece for the Mustangs, who face Timberline on Wednesday.

Logan Stucki and Alex Marquardt had one hit each for the Warriors.

RIDGEVUE 10, BOISE 0: Jameson Deitz pitched four scoreless innings — allowing just one hit — to lead the Warhawks to a six-inning win over the Brave.

Deitz struck out 10 batters and combined with teammate Preston Wade for the shutout.

Junior Landon Dance led the charge at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Zach Forster, Logan Hirasaki, Jaxon Johnson and Chance Schreiber also had one hit each for the Warhawks, which draw Capital on Wednesday.

Arthur Boyles, Brody Newbery and Sascha Stoll had one hit apiece for the Brave.

TIMBERLINE 10, KUNA 5: A six-run fourth inning propelled the No. 11 seed Wolves over the No. 8 Kavemen in a 6A SIC district play-in game.

Timberline totaled 13 hits, with senior Nick Walborn going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Logan Thistle and Isaac Mills each hit solo home runs.

Junior Vinny Peters earned the win for the Wolves, surrendering six hits and five runs over 5.1 innings.

Ayden Schnitker and Bergan Overall each had two hits for the Kavemen.

CAPITAL 7, BORAH 3: Sophomore Brady Ruzicka hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning to break a 2-2 tie, and the Eagles never looked back in a 6A SIC district play-in victory over the Lions.

Ruzicka finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Caden Werner also had two hits for Capital.

Cooper Myers picked up the win, allowing five hits and three runs over four innings while striking out four. He also went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Ryan Gross, who went 2-for-3, paced Borah with a solo home run in the fifth.

BASEBALL

Caleb Zawadzki, Eagle: Went 2-for-3 at the plate with a team-leading three RBIs as the Mustangs routed Meridian 12-0 in a 6A SIC district play-in game.

Jameson Deitz, Ridgevue: Dominated on the mound, pitching four scoreless innings while allowing just one hit, no walks and striking out 10 in the Warhawks’ six-inning win over Boise in a 6A SIC district play-in game.

Nick Walborn, Timberline: Went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI to help the No. 11 Wolves upset No. 8 Kuna in a 6A SIC district play-in game.

Brady Ruzicka, Capital: Finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and a run scored to help the Eagles outlast the Lions 7-3 in a 6A SIC district play-in game.

Jahzyon Sylva, Payette: Helped the Pirates rally for an eight-inning win over the Chargers, going 3-for-4 with a double and also pitching seven innings, striking out nine.

Max Vidlak, Fruitland: Kept the Grizzlies unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Homedale, connecting on a solo home run to right field in the third inning.

SOFTBALL

Payten Hutsell, Nampa: Went 2-for-5 at the plate with a home run, driving in five runs and scoring two more in a 10-5 victory over Bishop Kelly.

Kloe Fogle, Caldwell: Went 3-of-4, including a triple and a double, while racking up four RBIs and three runs scored in a 19-5 win over Columbia.

Peyton Shook, Nampa Christian: Led the Trojans to a 2-1 victory over Weiser, throwing a complete game while giving up four hits, one earned run and striking out 14 with just one walk. She also went 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.

Lakota Leppert, Parma: Went 3-for-4 at the plate with three doubles, three RBIs and four runs scored in the Panthers’ 20-2, five-inning rout of Vision Charter.

Analyse Durham, Melba: Helped the Mustangs earn a 7-4 victory over Glenns Ferry, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
