5A SIC DISTRICT BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

SKYVIEW 6, VALLIVUE 2: Jacoby Navarro inherited an ugly situation.

Trailing 2-0 in the third, the Hawks brought the senior pitcher in from the bullpen with two runners on base and nobody out. But Navarro slammed the door shut, throwing five scoreless innings to earn the win as the Hawks rallied to victory in their 5A SIC district semifinal.

Navarro’s steady outing allowed Skyview to take the lead on Brodie Fleshman’s RBI triple in the sixth inning. The Hawks then tacked on runs with a single from Elijah Strong, a sacrifice fly from Mason Krahn and a single from Trevan Plew in the final two innings to advance to the district finals.

Skyview, the reigning district champ, will face Bishop Kelly at 5 p.m. Thursday at Vallivue. The winner clinches a spot in the state’s new regional round.

Colt Augustus led Vallivue with a 1-for-4 day that included a two-run single in the third inning. The Falcons drop into the district tournament’s losers’ bracket, where they will host Columbia at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

BISHOP KELLY 21, NAMPA 5 (5 innings): The top-seeded Knights erupted for 12 runs in the third inning to blow open their 5A SIC district semifinal and roll into the district championship.

Colin Brazil provided the biggest highlights in the inning, ripping a run-scoring triple to right field and adding an RBI single later in the frame. But the Knights also took advantage of four walks and an error in the inning to keep the wheels turning.

Luca Quilici led the Knights at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs, and he also earned the win on the mound. Sy Wong also went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Jaxson Brady added three RBIs of his own.

Nampa’s Ethan Stauffer finished 3-for-3 with a double as the Bulldogs dropped into the losers’ bracket, where they will face Emmett at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Vallivue.
