Boise State lands first commitment from a recruit in Idaho. It’s from a 300-pound OT
Boise State landed its first 2023 commitment from an Idaho recruit on Monday.
Owyhee offensive lineman Carson Rasmussen announced his commitment on Twitter — becoming the eighth member of the Broncos’ 2023 class and the fifth recruit to commit in the past seven days.
Boise State picked up four commitments in four days last week. Running back Jambres “Breezy” Dubar opened the floodgates on Tuesday, followed by wide receiver Jackson Grier on Wednesday. Cornerback Franklyn Johnson Jr. joined the class on Thursday, and offensive tackle Kyle Cox committed on Friday.
“It was a pretty easy decision,” said Rasmussen, adding that Boise State was one of the first programs to recruit him. “After visiting a couple times and talking to coaches about their vision for me, it’s something I just wanted to be part of.”
Rasmussen spent most of his childhood in Idaho, and he experienced playing on the blue turf in Albertsons Stadium with his team in the Optimist Youth Football League. He spent the first three years of his high school career at Stayton High — a 4A school near Salem, Oregon — but recently moved back to the Gem State and will spend his senior season at Owyhee High School, which just opened this year.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound senior-to-be is a three-star offensive tackle, according to 247Sports, which ranks him as the No. 2 offensive lineman and No. 8 overall recruit in Idaho. He also has scholarship offers from San Diego State, Air Force, Army, Idaho, Idaho State and Portland State.
Rasmussen said he has played left tackle in high school, and he understands the premium college programs put on the position. He’s also seen a long line for former Boise State left tackles make it in the NFL: Ezra Cleveland, Rees Odhiambo, Charles Leno Jr. and Ryan Clady.
“I want to go somewhere I can get developed, and the coaches had a strong plan for me,” Rasmussen said. “I’m really quick and very aggressive on run blocks and down blocks, but I know I can continue to improve my technique and footwork and get faster in general.”
Boise State offered Rasmussen a scholarship on Saturday, and he wasted no time becoming the third offensive lineman to join the Broncos’ 2023 class. Center Jason Steele was the first, committing in April.
