Boise State adds a safety with NFL bloodlines to its 2020 recruiting class
The Boise State football team picked up a verbal commitment from a 2020 safety with NFL bloodlines Friday in Mayfair High’s Semaj Verner.
His cousin is former UCLA safety Alterraun Verner, who also played in the NFL for the Titans and Buccaneers and most recently for the Dolphins in 2017.
“Ever since I was a kid looking up to my cousin, it was a dream to follow in his footsteps and always push myself to be on his level,” Verner wrote in his Twitter announcement Friday morning.
Verner is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound safety from Lakewood, California. He’s rated as a three-star prospect by 247sports.com and Rivals.com, and he had offers from USC, UCLA, Colorado, Arizona State, Oregon State, BYU and 10 of 12 Mountain West teams.
Verner visited Boise State on Oct. 12 for the Broncos’ 59-37 win over Hawaii. He is the second safety and fourth defensive back to join the 2020 class. Fellow three-star safety Isaiah Bradford committed in April and cornerbacks Kaonohi Kaniho and Donovan Clark both joined in August.
Verner is the 12th member of the Broncos’ 2020 class, which 247sports ranks No. 1 in the Mountain West and No. 79 in the nation.
