Boise State basketball adds another big man in the portal. Here’s what he brings
Boise State basketball continues to add size to its frontcourt through the transfer portal, reportedly securing the signing of 6-foot-9 forward Dovydas Butka on Wednesday.
DraftExpress first reported Butka’s signing. Boise State was asked to comment but had not yet confirmed the addition.
Butka, a native of Lithuania, will be playing for his third school in three years. He began his college career at Pepperdine before transferring to Campbell for his sophomore season. In 31 starts for the Fighting Camels last season, he averaged 13.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game playing as both a power forward and center.
Within those 31 starts, he posted 11 double-doubles and had 11 games with at least 10 rebounds for Campbell, which went 16-18 overall and 8-10 in the Coastal Athletic Conference.
Butka’s arrival continues a growing trend this offseason at Boise State, which is fortifying its inside game with taller, stronger bodies. The Broncos lost their three main frontcourt contributors from last season — Drew Fielder, Andrew Meadow and Javan Buchanan — to the transfer portal.
In addition to Butkas, the Broncos have added 6-foot-9 forward Jerquarius Stanback (Alabama State) and 6-foot-11 center Jikany Deang (North Dakota State College of Sciences). They also brought in one guard, Damari Wheeler-Thomas, a 6-foot point player from North Dakota State.
The Broncos’ top rebounder last season was Fielder, who finished with 183 rebounds but transferred to Alabama this spring. Butka finished last season with 264 rebounds, while Stanback had 187.
