One-year BSU standout and Boise native transfers to Power Four program

Former Boise State basketball forward Drew Fielder will spend his final year of college eligibility with Top 25 program Alabama in the SEC.

College basketball website On3 first reported Fielder’s commitment on Monday morning. Fielder did not immediately respond to the Idaho Statesman’s request for comment.

Fielder, a Boise native who played his first two college years with Georgetown, spent one season with Boise State before entering the transfer portal earlier this month. He becomes the third former Bronco to transfer to a Power Four program this spring, alongside Andrew Meadow at Oregon and Javan Buchanan with West Virginia.

Fielder grew up in the Treasure Valley and began his high school career at Rocky Mountain High School before transferring to a Southern California prep school.

He began his college basketball career in the Big East with the Hoyas and appeared in all 63 possible games across two seasons. He made the jump to Boise State ahead of the 2025-26 season, calling it an “honor” to play for the team he rooted for as a kid.

In his one season with the Broncos, Fielder led the team in scoring (14.7 per game), rebounding (5.7) and total blocks (17). He started in 30 of 32 games, and also led all regular contributors in field goal percentage (54.7%).

Fielder is joining an Alabama team that finished 25-10 last season and came in second in the highly competitive SEC with a 13-5 conference record. The Crimson Tide made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual champions Michigan. Coach Nate Oats’ team made the Elite Eight in 2023 and ‘25, and was in the Final Four in 2024.

Alabama led the nation in points per game (91.2), 3-point attempts (1,256) and 3-point percentage (35.9%) last season. Those numbers indicate a good fit for Fielder, who shot a team-best 40.9% (38-for-94) from beyond the arc for the Broncos.
