Boise State basketball makes portal addition: a defender with impressive stats

Boise State menโ€™s basketball announced Thursday that 6-foot-9 forward Jerquarius Stanback was the programโ€™s second addition of the spring transfer portal.

Stanback, whoโ€™ll be a redshirt sophomore for the 2026-27 season, is arriving after two years with Alabama State. After redshirting his freshman year, Stanback was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference defensive player of the year last season.

Stanback started all 32 games for Alabama State in 2025-26, averaging 8.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 2.0 blocks while shooting 52.2% from the field.

The Hornets finished just 10-22 overall and 7-11 in conference play, but Stanback managed to put himself among elite company: Across the entirety of menโ€™s college basketball last season, Stanback was one of just six players to average at least eight points, five rebounds, one steal and two blocks.

He led the SWAC in blocks (65) and also ranked among the top players in steals (34). No player for Boise State recorded more than 17 blocks (Drew Fielder) last season, and Dylan Andrews led the team with 21 steals.

Stanback joins postgraduate transfer guard Damari Wheeler-Thomas, a transfer from North Dakota State, as the Broncosโ€™ two portal additions so far. Their entire starting lineup from last season has left, either via graduation or the portal, leaving coach Leon Rice and his staff with the job of rebuilding.
