Winds to pick up in Boise as rain, mountain snow return. See latest storm forecast

Hold on tight, Boise: It’s about to get windy.

The National Weather Service said in its most recent Idaho forecast discussion that a “potent atmospheric river” should arrive on Wednesday and persist through Friday, bringing “moderate to heavy precipitation to the northern and central portions of the state.” The storm will bring with it a cooling trend.

According to the weather service, Boise can expect on-and-off rain showers during the week as temperatures and wind speeds fluctuate.

“It’s going to be a windy week,” said David Groenert, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Boise office.

When is wind picking up in Boise?

Winds will blow all week in Boise, Groenert told the Idaho Statesman via phone, noting that Thursday and Saturday will be especially breezy.

“Saturday is going to be an interesting day,” the forecaster said.

North Idaho will be hit the hardest by the storm, according to the weather service’s Idaho forecast discussion.

The federal agency could issue a winter weather advisory for the Idaho Panhandle due to potential blizzard conditions in the area, Groenert said.
