Snow?! Boise-area sees brief, ‘weak’ snow showers. Will there be more?
Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, Boise. Yes, it was snowing.
After weeks of rain, record highs and more rain, the Treasure Valley finally saw some snow Saturday, if only for a few minutes and a couple of days late for the holidays. But will there be more?
Sophia Adams, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told the Idaho Statesman, that a strong cold front moved through Idaho on Saturday morning, bringing cooler temperatures and “weak snow showers” into the area. The high for Saturday was expected to be around 40 degrees, which is roughly a 12-degree drop from Friday’s high of 52, said Adams, who is based in Boise.
Snow-wise, the Treasure Valley shouldn’t expect much else, though, as the cold front moves to eastern Idaho.
“For the rest of the day, it really looks like we’ll have maybe some lingering low clouds and those breezy northwest winds with some cooler temperatures,” Adams said, “but no chance of precipitation for the rest of the evening.”
Those headed north aren’t completely out of luck. Bogus Basin got just over an inch of snow, Adams said, while the McCall area had about 5 inches.
There’s some potential for snow in the mountains by the end of next week, Adams said, but it’s still a bit too far out to know for sure. The cooler temperatures, though, are here to stay.
Adams said, “We are in a La Niña winter,” which generally means a wetter and colder season. “Once we get into the later part of the winter, we’ll have a little bit of a better idea of what, what we will be able to see in the short term.”
