Boise broke another weather record this past weekend.

On Sunday, the city saw 0.98 inches of rain, surpassing the previous record for total daily precipitation on Dec. 21, which was set in 2014 at about three-quarters of an inch.

Sunday also clocked in with the highest daily precipitation of the year. Previously, it was Feb. 2, at about 0.85 inches.

In total from Tuesday to Sunday, the Boise area saw around 1.5 inches of rain, National Weather Service meteorologist Les Colin told the Idaho Statesman.

The heavy rain continued a trend of unusual weather late in the year. On Dec. 17, Boise broke a temperature record, hitting 58 degrees, and the city nearly surpassed a temperature record on Dec. 11, according to previous Statesman reporting. Boise also experienced its second-warmest November.

The rain will continue Monday, and could get heavier again into the evening, Colin said. But after that, Boise should see some drier conditions into Tuesday. It’s also expected to get even warmer, Colin said, with high temperatures rising into the 50s on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Of course,” he said, “that means we’re not going to have a white Christmas.”

Closer to the end of the year, the area could finally see conditions that look a little more like winter. Colin said some models show temperatures dropping, and potentially some snow. But that’s hard to predict.

“That’s way out there now,” he said. “And those models can change.”
