You were wanting summertime, Boise, right? Well, relentless heat is here

The sun is shining and Boise weather is heating up.

Get ready with sunscreen, hats and trips to bodies of water, because it’s not going away anytime soon.

Just this week, Boise tied the record high for July 8, hitting 104 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

There likely won’t be any record-breaking temperatures coming, but highs are going to be hotter than normal as summer’s long days take over in mid-July, senior Boise NWS meteorologist Les Colin told the Idaho Statesman.

Sunday and Monday will be the hottest days of the coming week, with temperatures at 99 or 100, according to NWS forecasts. The high Saturday is expected to be 96.

“It isn’t going to be the records on those days, but it looks like about 5 to 7 degrees above normal,” Colin said.

The rest of next week should see high temperatures under 100 degrees, Colin added, but next weekend, Boise likely will be back up to 100. And the highs before then will be in the mid- or upper 90s.

With no rain in sight and abundant sunshine, the heat could spell doom toward the end of summer, when droughts rear their ugly heads, Colin said.

The National Weather Service does not see any thunderstorms on the horizon yet, Colin said, but by the end of next week, conditions could favor some rolling through.
