Did it feel like some record heat on Tuesday, Boise? Here’s why
Boiseans experienced their hottest day of 2025 so far on Tuesday — and it matched a record.
Boise reached 104 degrees, tying the record for July 8 that was set in 2017. The previous high temperature this year in Boise was 102 on July 1.
“There’s a very strong ridge of high pressure that’s building over the West, and it’s centered kind of over the Four Corners area today,” said Spencer Tangen, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
“But we also have an area of low pressure off the coast of California. That combination brings winds up from the south, so that’s pushing the air from the desert southwest up into our area.”
After record-setting heat Tuesday, the Treasure Valley could be hit with thunderstorms on Wednesday.
Tangen said there’s about a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms in the Boise area, with a greater chance for isolated wind gusts as high as 50 to 60 miles per hour. The possibility of storms, including the potential for lightning, will come in the late afternoon. There also is a low risk for brief, heavy rain, Tangen said.
“If we get lightning on dry fuels, that could start new fires, and then we get the gusty outflow winds on top of that, that’s kind of a recipe for getting new fires,” Tangen said. “Then there’s potential for rapid fire growth if lightning strikes in the dry fuels.”
It will be hot again Wednesday, according to Weather Service forecasts, with a high of 97. Thursday will cool down to 88, but weekend highs will be in the 90s.
