Idahoans will elect a new secretary of state in the Nov. 8 general election.

Republican Phil McGrane and Democrat Shawn Keenan are the candidates running to replace current Secretary of State Lawerence Denney. Whoever wins in November will be the state’s top election official.

McGrane, the Ada County clerk, won the GOP nomination in the May primary against two state lawmakers — Rep. Dorothy Moon, of Stanley, and Sen. Mary Souza, of Coeur d’Alene. Moon became chairwoman of the Idaho Republican Party in July.

The Idaho Statesman sent surveys to both candidates in the contested race. Keenan did not respond. McGrane’s responses are copied below.
