Two seats on the Ada County Highway District Commission are up for grabs in the November election.
Incumbent and commission president Mary May seeks a second term against challengers Miranda Gold and Payton “Regina ‘Queen’” Khan in District 3, which includes downtown Boise, the North End, Northwest Boise, Garden City, Eagle and Star.
In District 4, incumbent Kent Goldthorpe is trying to earn his third term. Neil Durrant is challenging him. District 4 includes South Meridian, Kuna and Southwest Boise.
ACHD commissioners serve four-year terms and are considered part-time. In fiscal year 2023, which began at the start of October, the annual salary is $26,868 and the commission president makes $32,292.
The Idaho Statesman sent surveys to each of the candidates, and their responses are copied below, unedited. They discussed transportation, growth and collaboration with other agencies.
We omitted Payton Khan, who is on the ballot, after she submitted some answers that did not address the questions we asked and ignored others.
