With election season right around the corner, Canyon County voters will soon elect a host of new and returning city council members, mayors and more.

This year, Nampa residents will decide on City Council members who, for the first time, must run and live in their own districts. State law now requires that any city with 100,000 or more residents must elect the council by district. Most recent numbers put Nampa at 100,200 residents.

In Nampa, five candidates are facing off for a single city council seat after Jacob Bowers resigned the seat and created a vacancy in June after moving out of city limits.

In Caldwell, four candidates will compete for a city council seat held by John McGee who did not file to keep his seat this year. McGee was a controversial politician who resigned from the State Senate in 2012 after accusations of sexually harassing a female staffer and later was arrested for drunk driving, stealing an SUV and crashing into a driveway in Meridian.

Middleton Mayor Steve Rule is facing off against Jackie Hutchison once more for re-election. Hutchison previously ran for mayor in 2019.

Here are the candidates who met Friday’s legal deadline for filing their candidacies in Nampa, Caldwell, Middleton, and school and other districts. All terms last four years unless otherwise indicated.
