Heads up, Treasure Valley commuters. 2-month closure coming to this I-84 ramp

Treasure Valley commuters used to taking Interstate 84 from Caldwell to Boise may need to adjust their routes this summer in light of upcoming closures.

The Idaho Transportation Department announced it will close the I-84 Centennial Way eastbound on-ramp in Caldwell for 60 days starting the evening of Thursday, June 25.

Drivers will be able to detour to the 10th Avenue interchange one exit east, which recently reopened following its own set of construction-related closures, according to ITD.

The two-month closure will allow crews to rebuild the on-ramp and connect it to new lanes under construction along I-84, ITD said in a news release Monday.

The construction is part of the final stretches of a project to widen I-84 between Centennial and Franklin Road and add improvements to some of the interchanges. According to the news release, that work began in November 2023 and is expected to wrap up next year.

According to ITD, the Centennial ramp closure will be the project’s “last extended ramp closure until construction is complete in 2027.”

Once complete, the stretch of I-84 will include three lanes in each direction with auxiliary lanes connecting the interchanges. Other work has included refurbishing the pedestrian overpass between the 10th Avenue and Franklin Road interchanges, adding a sound wall along Hannibal Street and installing a traffic signal at the westbound ramps at the Centennial interchange.

From late June through August, drivers in Caldwell will have detour from Centennial Way to the 10th Avenue interchange in order to access I-84. The purple arrows show the detour route.
