A collision between a truck and a bike Wednesday evening left an 8-year-old boy dead, according to a Boise Police Department news release.

At about 7:28 p.m., police went to the intersection of Nez Perce and Pacific streets on the Bench, where paramedics took the child to St. Luke’s Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police said Thursday morning that the boy died from his injuries Wednesday night.

The Ada County Coroner’s Office on Thursday identified the boy as Napayshni Stanton-Morgan.

The coroner’s release said Napayshni, who is from Seattle, sustained multiple blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Boise at about 8:30 p.m.

The boy was cycling south across Nez Perce and the truck was traveling westbound on Nez Perce when the collision occurred, according to police.

“Our hearts are broken for the family, friends, neighbors, and everyone grieving this unimaginable loss,” Boise Police Chief Chris Dennison in a statement. “A tragedy like this one, involving a young child, touches our entire community. We are holding all those affected in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Boise Police Violent Crimes Unit, Crash Reconstruction Team and Victim Witness Unit are all investigating, according to the release. No citations or charges had been issued as of Thursday morning.

Police closed down Nez Pierce Street, between Latah Street and Pacific Street, for about four hours Wednesday night, the release said.
