2 injured, with one flown to Boise hospital, after pair of car crashes west of Emmett
Two car crashes Tuesday morning at the same site west of Emmett sent two people to hospitals — one via helicopter — and blocked a state highway for roughly two hours.
According to a news release from the Idaho State Police, troopers were first called to a crash at around 8 a.m. Tuesday along Idaho 52 at Bowman Road. ISP said a woman was backing up her pickup to help a disabled car that slid off the roadway when a Chevrolet SUV struck the back of the pickup.
As police responded to that crash, a Gem County sheriff’s deputy pulled his patrol car behind the disabled car. Moments later, another car swerved around the deputy’s vehicle and the Chevrolet SUV before also hitting the pickup.
Troopers say the driver of the pickup was taken via helicopter to the Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet SUV was taken to Valor Health in Emmett for her injuries.
Idaho State Police did not say in the news release what conditions the crash victims were in as of Tuesday afternoon.
All of those involved in the crashes were wearing seat belts. Idaho 52 was blocked for around two hours while crews cleared the roadway and scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
