Cars swerve from wrong-way driver’s path moments before fatal crash, Idaho video shows
A wrong-way driver sped down Interstate 90 and caused a fatal crash on Friday, Idaho State Police said.
Christine Cann, 57, of Coeur d’Alene, is accused of entering the interstate going the wrong way, Idaho State Police said.
Cann continued to drive the wrong way until she hit a car driven by Jeremy Scherer, a 24-year-old from Spokane Valley who died from his injuries, police said.
“The collision caused Scherer to spin sideways where he was struck on his driver’s side by Christopher B. Comer, 57, of Issaquah (Washington) in a silver 2019 Subaru Forester,” Idaho State Police said in a news release. “Scherer’s and Comer’s vehicles continued off of the right shoulder and came to rest near the bike path.”
Cann was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter, according to Idaho State Police.
One witness caught the wrong-way driver on dashcam video, and troopers were looking for more possible witnesses.
“The video, courtesy of the Grabert family, shows a (gray) SUV traveling the wrong way on the eastbound interstate just moments before the collision,” police said. “Several eastbound drivers are seen quickly swerving to miss the wrong-way suspect vehicle.”
The video shows several witnesses who troopers say have not talked to police about the incident.
“A young man sadly did not survive this crash,” Captain John Kempf of the Idaho State Police District 1 in Coeur d’Alene said in the news release. “The video shows there may be more people who can help us put together what happened. We hope when those folks realize what they witnessed, they’ll contact investigating troopers.”
