Idaho woman killed, 3 others hospitalized after car crash Sunday in Boise County

A car crash in Boise County claimed the life of a Meridian woman and sent three others to a Boise hospital Sunday.

Just after 5 p.m. Sunday, a driver in a pickup truck with four passengers was heading south on State Highway 55 when the vehicle went off the road just south of Banks and hit a tree near milepost 74, according to a news release from the Idaho State Police. All four of those inside the car were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

One juvenile in the car was flown via helicopter to Boise’s Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center for treatment. The driver, a 50-year-old man, and another child in the vehicle were taken to the same hospital via ambulance.

The fourth passenger — a 48-year-old woman — reportedly died at the scene of the crash, according to ISP. After notifying next of kin, police identified the deceased as Katherine Fletcher, a Meridian resident.

North and southbound lanes of the highway were blocked for several hours as police investigated the crash. It was not immediately clear what caused the driver of the pickup truck to leave the roadway before the vehicle hit the tree.

As of Sunday night, the crash was still under investigation by ISP.
