An Idaho man could face up to 30 years in prison after he rear-ended another vehicle over the weekend on the Interstate 184 Connector, causing it to leave the highway, hit a concrete structure and flip several times, according to court records obtained by the Idaho Statesman.

Kevin Mccannon, 29, of Boise, was driving an Acura sedan that hit a 2015 Toyota Highlander, Idaho State Police said. A court affidavit said that Mccannon appeared to be inebriated at the scene. He was arrested and charged with two felonies: vehicular manslaughter and aggravated driving under the influence, court records showed.

All five of the occupants of the Highlander were sent to the hospital, where one of the passengers, a 49-year-old woman from Arizona, died from her injuries, ISP said. Three of the passengers suffered injuries that ranged from a broken leg to a brain bleed, according to a probable cause affidavit written by Idaho State Police Trooper Andrew Cougher.

The Ada County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the woman as Vidya Balasubramaniam, of Chandler, Arizona. Her cause of death was listed as blunt force injuries and her manner of death as an accident.

The crash occurred just before 11 p.m. Sunday on the westbound lanes of the Connector.

Mccannon caused the death of the Arizona woman and caused “great bodily harm” to the driver of the vehicle and two others, Ada County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Maria Gonzalez wrote in a criminal complaint.

If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison — a maximum of 15 years for each felony count.

Mccannon appeared before 4th Judicial District Magistrate Judge Regan Jameson at the Ada County Courthouse on Monday, where his bond was set at $1 million. He’s in custody at the Ada County Jail.
