Update: Boise Police arrest Boise man on Allumbaugh Street; tear gas deployed into home
The Boise Police Department took Nicholas Gloth, 37, of Boise into custody Friday evening after several hours of negotiations at a residence in the 100 block of N. Allumbaugh Street in Boise. Gloth was known to have access to firearms and had made multiple threats to a victim earlier in the day, BPD said in a news release Friday night.
Gloth was charged with one felony count of attempted arson, a felony count of intimidating a witness and a misdemeanor protection order violation. The location of the attempted arson was not disclosed by police.
At around 2:30 p.m., officers started trying to make contact with Gloth, and they were able to talk to him while he stood on his second-story balcony, police said. He refused to come out of the residence, though, and officers eventually continued talking to him via phone.
A crisis negotiation team was called in, with BPD’s Special Operations Unit staged nearby, the release said.
Gloth was warned several times that officers would come in to arrest him if he did not surrender, police said, and they sent him a copy of the warrant and reviewed it with him. Because he refused to comply, police said they finally deployed tear gas, causing him to leave the residence and surrender. Police said Gloth was taken into custody at about 6:30 p.m. and booked into the Ada County Jail.
A few residents were evacuated from a nearby apartment during the standoff as a precaution, according to the release, and police provided traffic control in the area.
