Update: Caldwell man identified as suspect in shooting of New Plymouth woman

The Payette County Sheriff’s Office has identified Scott Thomas, 46, of Caldwell, as the suspect in a Thursday night shooting in New Plymouth that left a woman injured.

Thomas was taken into custody in Canyon County with charges pending, authorities said in a news release Friday evening.

At around 10:40 p.m. Thursday, deputies with the Payette County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched after reports of a shooting were made to law enforcement, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were told that there was an altercation in Ontario, Oregon, before two cars left there and drove to New Plymouth. The two cars arrived at a residence in the town, and shots were fired at one of the vehicles.

The Sheriff’s Office said a 31-year-old woman was shot once. Her condition was unknown as of Friday morning, according to law enforcement.

The case is still under investigation.

Idaho State Police troopers and the Payette City Police Department are assisting with the investigation.
