Idaho man sentenced to 10 years in prison for meth trafficking, illegal gun ownership
Roberto Nieto Rangel, 41, of Nampa, was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court to 10 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
District Judge David C. Nye also ordered Rangel to serve five years of supervised release after his sentence. Rangel, who has been convicted twice of re-entering the United States illegally, was indicted in February 2019 and pleaded guilty in December, according to a press release from the United State’s Attorney’s Office.
According to court records, Rangel possessed nearly a pound of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest, as well as a handgun with a scratched-off serial number. He was prohibited from possessing firearms because of convictions for domestic assault and his immigration status in the U.S.
This case was investigated by the Nampa Police Department and Treasure Valley Metro Violent Crimes Task Force, and the indictment was the result of a joint investigation with the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force, the release said.
